Plant Adaptations

1. Many plants of the tundra grow close to the ground to keep warm. This is true because the ground is heated up by sunlight, then the ground passes that warmth to the plants.


2. Due to the short growing seasons the plants make the most of every mintute. They couldn't survive if they didn't use their short growing season to their best possible ability.
3. Some very adaptive plants use leaves to provide nutrients and protection. Int the tundra the ground is very unfertile, so when their leaves fall beside their roots they consume its nutrients. These plants also use these leaves that lay beside them as wind blockers.

Animal Adaptaions

1. Many tundra animals have white fur, so they can blend in with the snow(above). This gives them a large advantage while hunting or being hunted. Some adaptations are so great that they turn white in the winter, and brown in the summer.



2. Many tundra animals have large amounts of flubber or hair to help keep them warm in the Tundra's glacial temperatures. Some Tundra animals even shed some of there hair in the summer to keep cool.



3. Some tundra animals escape the most bitter periods by hibernating or by migrating to the south for the winter.
